Election officials seize cash near Goa border

Belgavi: A person who was carrying Rs. 5.04 lakh in cash without relevant documents was caught by the election officials who also seized the cash. This incident took place at the Kankumbi check-post, Khanapur taluk, near Sural village, on Monday evening. The check-post borders Goa state.

Savio Santan Bravo of Xavier Training College, Desur village in Belagavi taluk, was caught carrying Rs 5.04 lakh cash in his car bearing a Goa registration number, inform the police.

It is ascertained that Bravo was carrying the cash, allegedly meant for distribution among voters. The cash was found by poll officials led by Surendranath Mathai, Assistant Executive Engineer, Zilla Panchayat Water Supply (Khanapur) at the Kankumbi check post. A case has been registered at Khanapur police station.
