Mangaluru: Following the death of two auto drivers due to an electric shock from a broken power line near Rosario School behind State Bank, the Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner Mullai Muhilan on Thursday instructed the city corporation officials to install trippers on streetlight poles as a precautionary measure.

Accordingly, from Friday, MCC’s electricity supply division, in collaboration with MESCOM, has begun installing trippers in streetlight meter boxes in several parts of the city. There are over 1,600 fuse boxes within the corporation limits, and trippers will be installed in all of them within the next 3-4 days.

This measure will ensure that the electricity supply is cut off if a power line snaps. Corporation officials have urged the public to report any broken or dangling power lines.

Pratiksha Shetty electrocution: Power Pole relocated

The MESCOM department has relocated the power pole that caused the death of a 21-year-old woman in Shibaje village on June 28.

The deceased, Pratiksha Shetty, had stepped out of her house to collect a parcel when she was electrocuted while crossing a waterlogged trench. Reportedly the delivery person had been waiting on the road due to water flow in the trench. If he had proceeded to Pratiksha’s house, he might have been electrocuted.

According to villagers, the HT and LT lines running from the Dharmasthala substation to Shishila transformers are extremely dangerous. Proper maintenance could have saved Pratiksha’s life. Villagers have demanded the relocation and proper maintenance of other dangerous power poles in the area.

MLA Harish Poonja’s Visit Today

MLA Harish Poonja, currently on official duty in Bengaluru, will visit the incident site and Pratiksha’s home today June 29.
