As the clock struck midnight on December 24, the coastal districts came alive with the magical essence of Christmas. Thousands of faithful gathered at churches, adorned with twinkling lights, stars, and festive decorations, to usher in the joyous occasion of the birth of Jesus Christ.

The Christmas Eve Mass, a centerpiece of the celebrations, drew a large number of worshippers from the twin coastal districts. Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo, the Bishop of the Udupi diocese, presided over the Christmas Eve Mass at Milagres Cathedral in Kallianpur. The solemn ceremony, held at midnight to mark the birth of Jesus, was a testament to the devotion and enthusiasm of the congregation.

The churches, aglow with vibrant cribs and adorned Christmas trees, resonated with the harmonious notes of carol singing. The atmosphere was filled with festive cheer as families and friends gathered to commemorate the significance of Christmas.

Fr Valerian Mendonca, the rector of Milagres Cathedral, and other priests joined Bishop Lobo as con-celebrants, imparting blessings and spreading the message of peace and goodwill.

Beyond the church walls, the celebration extended to homes, where cribs adorned the yards, and intricate decorations created a festive ambiance. Miniature scenes depicting the nativity added a touch of nostalgia, and stars illuminated both houses and churches.

One of the highlights of Christmas is the delightful array of treats, and this year was no exception. Cake and Kuswar, a selection of special savories prepared during Christmas, were in high demand. Many organizations took it upon themselves to prepare Kuswar, distributing these delectable treats to those in need, spreading the joy of the season.

Sales of Christmas trees, bells, and Santa Claus costumes reached new heights, adding to the visual splendor of the celebrations. Every church, aglow with a myriad of lights, became a beacon of warmth and joy, welcoming the community to partake in the grand celebration of Christmas.

As the coastal districts came together to celebrate this festive season, the true spirit of Christmas shone through—a time of reflection, generosity, and togetherness. The sights and sounds of the season echoed the universal message of love and peace, making this Christmas a memorable and cherished occasion for all.
