Former Minister B. Ramanath Rai stated that the emergency imposed by Indira Gandhi’s government did not harm Dakshina Kannada district. Instead, it saw the implementation of several progressive projects during that period.
Speaking at a press conference held at the Congress district office on Thursday, Rai highlighted that during the emergency period, significant initiatives such as the Land Reform Act, bank nationalization, debt relief legislation, and bus nationalization were implemented. He criticized the BJP for tarnishing the legacy of Indira Gandhi, who sacrificed her life for the nation.
Rai also defended Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, who stated in Parliament that there is no place for violence in Hinduism, accusing the BJP of making baseless allegations against him.
The press conference was attended by Garment Corporation President Mamatha Gatyi, former Mayor Shashidhar Hegde, Surendra Kambli, Baby Kundar, Piyush Rodrigues, Naveen D’Souza, Appi, Jayashila Adyanthaya, Yogesh Nayak, Nityananda Shetty, and Neeth Sharan.
