Press Release, Jun 18, 2024, 2:47 PM IST
Dr. H.S. Ballal, Pro-Chancellor of MAHE, Manipal, proudly announced the commencement of the Manipal Arogya Card 2024 enrolment today. Reflecting on the transformative impact of the late Dr. T.M.A. Pai, a visionary in the Indian healthcare system, Dr. Ballal highlighted the card’s mission to make quality healthcare affordable. “The dedication and service to society exemplified by Dr. Pai are rare. It gives me immense pleasure to announce the start of this year’s enrolment,” he said. Manipal Arogya, under the tagline of “For the Whole Family, Great Value, Trusted Care” aims to provide comprehensive healthcare benefits to all members. The Manipal Health Card, initiated in 2000 under the leadership of Dr. Ramadas Pai, Chancellor of MAHE, aims to provide affordable healthcare to the public. While free healthcare is challenging to offer, this initiative ensures accessibility at reduced costs. In 2018, the scheme was expanded to include a two-year Manipal ArogyaCard, offering even greater flexibility and value to its members.
Dr. Sharath K Rao, Pro Vice Chancellor (Health Sciences) of MAHE, elaborated on the card’s journey, noting its expansion from the undivided Dakshina Kannada district to over 12-15 districts in coastal and central Karnataka, including Udupi, Dakshina Kannada, Davangere, Chitradurga, Shivamogga, Uttara Kannada, Haveri, Chikamagalur, Bellary, and neighbouring states like Kerala and Goa. Since its transition to digital mode in 2019, the scheme aims to become entirely card-less and customer-friendly in the coming years. Over the past 23 years, the Manipal Arogya Card has provided high-quality healthcare at discounted rates to millions, enrolling 360,000 members in 2023 alone, a testament to its growing popularity. At Kasturba Hospital Manipal, 52% of our OP patients and nearly 20% of our IP patients utilize the Manipal Arogya Card, amounting to a discount of approximately 16 crores.”
