Ettina Bhuja: Environment lovers oppose marathon in reserve forest

Mudigere: A marathon organized here today at ecologically sensitive Ettina Bhuja has attracted criticism from environmentalists.

Eco-lovers from the district have objected to ‘The Malnad Ultra’ marathon as it traverses through the ecologically sensitive reserve forests in the Western Ghats. They contended that the event generates a lot of waste. The toilets and other amenities can also pollute the water bodies, they said.

Many environmentalists have raised questions about how permissions were given to organize such a large event that can have a vast impact on the sensitive ecology of the area.

Environmental lovers also accused the district deputy conservator of forests evading their queries and giving only superficial answers.
