Ex-judge accused of domestic violence, forced abortion by wife

Udupi: A woman registered a complaint against her husband, Ashok Thimmaiah – a former judge of fourth JMFC Court in Udupi – for alleged domestic violence and forced abortion.
In the complaint, lodged with Udupi Women’s Police Station here, on Monday, Varalakshmi said that she had married Ashok in the year 2012. Varalakshmi alleged that during her stay with Ashok in Bengaluru, she was subjected to mental and physical torture by her in-laws, who had even threatened to burn her alive if she failed to meet their dowry demand.
The complaint further read that Ashok had even sold the ornaments, gifted by Varalakshmi’s parents as dowry and later began torturing her to bring more money. In June-July, 2018, when Varalakshmi was pregnant with the second child, she was forced to abort the child by Ashok.
A case has been registered against Ashok under Sections 498 (A), 324, 504, 506, 313 read with 149 respectively of IPC.
