Bengaluru: A 54-year-old retired soldier from the Indian Army shot himself dead at his house in Horamavu in Hennur police station limits on Sunday night.
The deceased has been identified as Anil Ahuja. He hailed from Uttar Pradesh and had retired from the Army a couple of years back and had begun an automobile business in Bengaluru. He moved into the city a couple of years back and was residing at an apartment in Horamavu.
According to the police, Anil was under depression after his wife divorced him five months back and his cell phone business was under an immense loss. He had taken debt from his friends and relatives and was not able return them.
Around 9.30 pm on Sunday, he shot himself in the head from his gun. The neighbours, who heard the shot broke open the door, discovered him dead and instantly called the police.
The police also said, seven months ago, Anil had tried to commit suicide three to four times and his children had prevented him from shooting himself. But, on Sunday, he was alone at home and committed suicide, the police said. The Hennur police have enlisted a case and sent the body for post mortem.
