Excise policy case: Court reserves for June 5 order on Kejriwal’s interim bail plea

PTI, Jun 1, 2024, 5:08 PM IST

Arvind Kejriwal’s fate hangs in the balance as a court reserved its decision until June 5 on his interim bail application amidst ongoing money laundering allegations. The AAP leader seeks bail on medical grounds, a claim contested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) as misleading.

Special Judge Kaveri Baweja scheduled the ruling, rejecting a plea to expedite the decision before Kejriwal’s mandated surrender on June 2. The Supreme Court had granted him interim bail for election campaigning, but the ED contends he misused this liberty.

During court proceedings, the ED accused Kejriwal of fabricating his health condition to evade surrender. Kejriwal alleges severe jail conditions impacted his health, which he argues necessitates further medical tests outside detention.
