Fact Check: Is Modi Govt distributing free Laptops to Students?

A message claiming that the Central Government is distributing free laptops to students keeping in view the transition to online education amidst the COVID-19 pandemic is going viral on social media
The message asserted that the education of students has been badly affected since schools and colleges have been shut due to COVID-19 pandemic. It also has a link from where students can get a laptop
The message states, ““Due to the ongoing novel coronavirus pandemic, schools and colleges have been closed and because of that education of students is getting affected. Therefore, the central government is providing free laptops to all the students so that they can complete their education and also give exams with the help of the Internet”
However, PIB claims that the government has not made such an announcement and the viral message turned out to be fake.
