Social media has been flooded with several images of the post-poll violence in West Bengal. One of the images, that has gone viral, happens to be of a 20-year-old girl from West Midnapore district.

Facebook and Twitter users have shared pictures of the girl with claims that she was gang-raped and murdered by “Rohingya and Bangladeshi jihadi” for supporting BJP.

According to the Fact check by India Today, the rape and murder incident is true but the family members and police have confirmed that there is no communal or political angle to it.

As per the FIR filed by the victim’s family at Pingla police station, local police arrested the three persons.

The accused identified as B Murmu from Belda, Chhotu Munda from Jharkhand, and Tapati Patra from Sabang, belong to the same community as the victim and have confessed to their crime.

“This particular incident has nothing to do with the post-poll violence in Bengal. The DNA reports confirm the rape and the arrested have confessed to the crime,” Rana Mukherjee, additional SP, Kharagpur was quoted speaking to India Today.
