Bengaluru: Scamsters posing as sleuths of the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) allegedly fleeced Rs 1.5 lakhs from a BESCOM Engineer here.
Highgrounds police have registered a case based on the complaint by BESCOM superintending engineer Guruswamy (59) and have launched an investigation to trace the culprits.
As per the complaint, Guruswamy received a call from an unknown number on March 31. The caller introduced himself to be a DySP at the ACB’s Bengaluru office. The impersonator threatened about starting an anti-corruption investigation at the home and office of the engineer and demanded to transfer Rs 1.5 lakhs to a bank account to stop the proceedings.
Fearing repercussions, Guruswamy complied with the caller’s request. However, the engineer got another call demanding an additional sum of Rs 50,000. This raised suspicions about the veracity of the caller and the engineer registered a complaint with the police.
