Mangaluru: A fake order declaring a holiday for schools on July 18 has gone viral on social media. In response, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Mullai Muhilan has directed the filing of an FIR.
The fraudulent order is a modified version of a previous announcement, with the date altered to June 18. The DC has instructed that an FIR be filed against both the creators of this fake order and those sharing it on social media.
In a press note, the DC stated, “We all need to make serious efforts to calm this frenzy. The official DC number is being shared in WhatsApp groups, and people are being asked to call and request leave. I receive continuous calls, around seven to eight per minute, totaling a few hundred calls over five to six hours, extending very late into the night and starting very early in the morning. Many of those calling are not even students.
“The DC mobile is a crucial link, particularly during disaster situations. This frenzy is rendering the mobile useless. Since this involves students and children, we are hesitating to take harsh steps. However, serious action will be initiated against those responsible for such fake letters and the unnecessary frenzy they create.”
