Fake message on disinfectant procedure to contain coronavirus; DC orders action

Mangaluru: Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner has directed officials to identify and initiate action against those who indulged in circulating a fake message regarding coronavirus on social media thus creating confusion among people.
As per the viral message, Mangalureans were requested to stay indoors citing disinfectant procedure to contain coronavirus.
In the fake message, it was said: “All are requested to stay indoors after 10 pm tonight till tomorrow morning 5 am. There will be disinfectant procedure in order to contain the coronavirus (COVID-19).”
As per government orders dated March 11, 2020, it is a serious offence to spread rumours, false messages pertaining to coronavirus. The district administration will take stringent action against those who spread a false message in social media regard to COVID 19, stated a press release from the district administration.
Meanwhile the district administration has urged people not to believe in such rumours and to maintain self-hygiene to prevent coronavirus.
