Katapadi: While most people worship their father during the Shraddh day, praying for their paternal ancestors on their death anniversary. But this man worships his father’s idol in his home garden, seeking his deceased father’s blessings every day.

Indushekhar Suvarna, a resident of Ainagudde near Katapadi lost his father Surappa Pandit on May 27, 1985. Surappa was a ‘darshan patri’ and a traditional medicine practitioner.

Wanting to keep the memory of his late father, who had lived a life of poverty, Indushekhar along with his brother Vishwanath Suvarna installed a stone idol of his father 11 years ago.

Indushekhar, his wife Jayanti and daughters Sheetal and Sonal start their day every day after worshipping the idol. Once a year, the household performs a special pooja and holds a feast for the locals. After the mother Sanjeevi Surappa’s death 5 years ago, the household holds the annual pooja for the parents on the same day.
