  • Renovation cost Rs 1 crore | Hi-tech development

Mangaluru: All works regarding the upgrading of Mangala swimming pool of Mangaluru City Corporation have already been completed and the renovated swimming pool will be inaugurated on February 16th.

The earlier water purification system at Mangala swimming pool was almost 28 years old. Hence hi-tech technology has been introduced. For this very reason, the renovation work had commenced almost 5 months back at the cost of Rs 1 crore.

Through the new technology, the water at Mangala swimming pool is being processed through the ozone unit and thus a new technology has been introduced. The earlier water purification system used to function only with human labour. But with the new unit, the work will be automated. Previously, there were 2 pump sets with 10 hp each. Now 4 pumps have been installed. The earlier 3 drum system has been changed with a new technology of 4 drum through which the water is purified.

For the continuous flow of purified water, pipes have been installed on either sides of the pool. The water being processed through the new water purification system makes the water resistant to water borne diseases and hence no contagious disease will spread here. Any impurities and virus in the water will be removed and the purified water is safe for the eyes and skin of the swimmer.

Latest technology installed

“Latest technology has been installed at Mangala swimming pool. It has been constructed in a way to be feasible to hold swimming competitions here in the future. The swimming pool will be inaugurated on Feb 16th,” said Bhaskar K, MCC Mayor

Experimental preparations since a week

“The work at Mangala swimming pool has already completed. Since a week, experimental preparations have been conducted,” informed Rajesh, Engineer.

Entry fee may increase

The entry fee to the newly renovated Mangala swimming pool with the latest technology has increased. There has been no revision of fares here since the last 5 years. Now, latest technology has been installed  and hence, inevitably the entry fee will have to be increased in the coming days, informed an official to “Udayavani”.
