Fees issue cannot be based on emotions, say pvt schools’ lawyers in K’taka HC

Bengaluru: Lawyers representing school management associations in the State have stated in the Karnataka High Court that the issue over school fees cannot be based on emotional statements.
They were reacting to the statement by State’s Advocate General Prabhuling Navadagi before Justice Sachin Shankar Magadum after he said that the court must consider the plight of the parents on the issue.
The State government had earlier appealed to the High Court for intervention in the issue by forming a Court-monitored committee to resolve the issue.
One of the lawyers argued that State governments do not have the power to regulate the school fees and it is left to school managements as ruled by the Supreme Court.
The State government had last year ordered that all private schools must collect only 70 per cent of the fees of the academic year 2020-21 for the academic year 2021-22.
Many schools had reportedly violated the order and sought full payment from parents.
