Mangaluru: The reason for increase in traffic density in the city is due to the increase in the number of vehicles as well as the haphazard driving skills of the motorists. In order to control traffic movement, the city traffic police installed fiber cones at important places on Sunday.
On May 18th, during the police phone in programme, there was a surge in demand from the public for the installation of fiber cones to control haphazard movement of vehicles. Importantly, the public insisted on installation of fiber cones at Pandeshwar railway gate and at the bus bay at Lighthouse hill road.
Use of reflectors
At some place, though there exist cones they have been worn out. At some other places, new cones have been installed. Cones have been also installed at places were new work has taken place. In order for the motorists to identify the cones in the night, reflectors have also been installed.
Haphazard vehicle parking
Cones have been installed on both sides of the road at Pandeshwar railway gate. When there is movement of trains over here, the railway gate is lowered to cease traffic movement. When this happens, the motorist stop their vehicles on the path of the oncoming vehicles and as soon as the gate goes up all the vehicles move in all the possible directions giving rise to unnecessary traffic jams.
Therefore, since a long period of time there was a demand of installing barricades here. As barricades take more space which will cause unnecessary trouble the traffic movement, presently cones have been installed.
Along with this, cones have also been installed to prevent buses from picking up passengers at locations along the road other than the bus stops. The cones have been also installed to provide comfort and safety to the pedestrians.
