Fight over addiction to Facebook, couple commit suicide

Bengaluru: Wife’s facebook addiction which erupted a quarrel between couple, resulted with the suicide of them two on Monday June 11 morning. 

The couple who hanged themselves are Anoop (34) and Saumya (23). On the issue of Saumya wasting her time on Facebook, there was a bitter fight on Sunday night, and the two were found to have hanged themselves in seperate rooms of their home, the police said. 

Anoop, a local of Hassan, was living in a leased home in Ramaiah Layout from the past ten years. He was a deputy manager with a poultry food manufacturing unit in Peenya. He had married Saumya four years back. The couple has left behind a three-year-old child. The house the couple right now lived in is situated in the ground floor and was leased by Anoop by paying Rs 6 lakh a year back, sources said. 

Although both of them were using Facebook, Anoop questioned Saumya’s excess addiction of Facebook, and her habit adding lots of people and chatting with them. Since the past few days the two fought with each other frequently on this issue. On Sunday also the fight erupted and during late hours on Sunday night, Saumya had left the house and made allegation against her husband. 

At this, proprietor of the house, Karippa, enquired the couple, and asked them to return into their home. From there on, Anoop had called Ravichandra, Saumya’s brother, disclosing to him that Saumya was constantly found submerged in Facebook and that she had not been doing anything else. He had requested that Ravichandra take his sister back home. At 7.30 am on Monday, Saumya called Ravichandra to disclose to him that her husband was torturing her by locking her in a room, and had asked her brother to save her. Ravichandra assured to come at 2.30 pm. When he reached his sister’s home at 2.30 pm on Monday, Ravichandra found that both had hanged themselves. 

Ravichandra, seeing that the door was not opened even after repeated knocks and ringing of doorbell, got the door broken and found that the couple had dies and the child was sleeping.

A case has been registered at the Bagalur police station.
