Fighting civic apathy: Septuagenarian bizman on mission to make M’luru roads safer

Mangaluru: While citizens have been blaming the apathy of civic officials over the sad state of Mangaluru roads, well-known businessman Gilbert D’Souza is setting an example for others by undertaking the task of closing potholes inorder to make our roads safer for motorists and pedestrians.

It maybe recalled that just last week, the 72-year-old had taken an initiative to fill the potholes near Bendoor. He was supported by Arjun Mascarenhas and Abdul Rauf, businessmen, Naseer, realtor and Joe Gonsalves, head, traffic warden squad in the noble cause.

Inspired by his initiative, several people voluntarily offered to join hands with Gilbert and today the group, led by the septuagenarian were seen filling potholes at Ambedkar (Jyothi) Circle before proceeding towards Milagres and State bank. Traffic police, wardens helped regulate vehicular movement to facilitate the repair works.

City Police commissioner Dr P S Harsha lauded the efforts of Gilbert and asked police personnel to make arrangements needed by the team.
