Mangaluru: In a show of strength, Dakshina Kannada Working Journalists’ Association (DKWJA) organized a huge protest condemning the FIR against journalists in Uppinangady on Saturday, June 4.
Condemning the incident, DKWJA president Shrinivas Indaje said that strict action must be taken against the sub-inspector of Uppinangady police station and a notice will also be sent to the Chief Minister and Home Minister of Karnataka.
The protestors also demanded to immediately file a ‘B’ report to the court and transfer the sub-inspector within three days.
They further accused the police of leaking the FIR copy on social media and urged the district-in-charge minister to take cognizance of the issue.
Recently, media persons who had gone to cover the protest at the government first-grade college in Uppinanady were allegedly assaulted by the students.
The protesting students allegedly assaulted media persons after locking them in the classroom and also forced them to delete the video recordings of the protest.
Police officials who arrived at the spot managed to settle the issue and dispersed the crowd. However, an FIR was registered against the journalists.
