Mangaluru: A fire broke out at the Pachanady garbage dump yard here on Friday afternoon. Thick blankets of smoke emanating from the dump yard created a sense of fear among residents.

MLA Dr. Bharat Shetty arrived at the spot and held a discussion with the authorities.

Speaking to the reporters, Bharat Shetty said that necessary measures have been taken to douse the fire and around 10 firefighters from NMPT, airport and KIOCL are currently on the spot.

“I spoke with the deputy commissioner about moving locals to safer areas to avoid any health risks,” he added.

Meanwhile, he stated that the work on the removal of legacy waste at Pachanady has already begun.

Mayor Jayanand Anchan, corporator Sangeetha Nayak, and Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) commissioner Akshy Sridhar were also present.
