Padubidri: The fire which was seen in Yermal Kalsanka areas two days back gutted a scrap shop near national highway 66 causing damages worth lakhs of ruppes on Thursday.

The fire which was witnessed at Kalsanka Bail on Tuesday night was doused by the fire brigade with assistance from the locals. But, an ember survived and set ablaze the trees and plants in the forest at Gundladi on Wednesday and destroyed much greenery. However, the locals managed to douse the fire there. Yet on Thursday, the plastic and other scrap material piled at the scrap shop owned by Abdul Khader, located near the highway was set on fire by a few remaining embers that managed to reach the inflammable materials with assistance from the wind. The fire and thick smoke hindered vehicular traffic for some time.

Kaup tahsildar Rashmi who was on election duty reached the spot during the incident and called fire brigade and UPCL fire personnel who rushed to the spot and assisted in dousing the fire.
