Belagavi: The first case in the state under the new triple talaq law was registered at the Savadatti police station of the Belagavi district.
Police registered an FIR based on the complaint filed by Bibi Ayisha, a resident of the Yakkundi village of the Savadatti taluk against her husband Ismail Khan Patan.
Bibi Ayisha in her complaint alleged that her husband, Patan, a resident of Goa, issued her a triple talaq through registered post.
She further added, “My husband is trying to divorce me by falsely claiming that I have some diseases.”
The police have registered a case under section 4 of the new act.
After the Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Act 2019 was passed, a few states saw cases being filed under this new law, while this is first a case filed in Karnataka.
