Fish marketing federation re-elects Yashpal Suvarna as its president

Udupi: The Dakshina Kannada and Udupi District Cooperative Fish Marketing Federation has re-elected Yashpal A Suvarna for the fourth consecutive term as its president.
The federation chose Purushotham Ameen Ullal as its vice president while Anand A, Sathish R Salian, Ramachandra Kunder, Shivaji S Ameen, Devappa Kanchan, Suresh Salian, Rama Kanchan, Chidananda, Sudheer Shriyan, Usharani, Sudhakar, Baby H Salian, and Indira have been elected as the directors.
Since Suvarna took over as the president of the federation in 2009, new business sections were opened including those for prawns, diesel, sale of fishing equipment, banking department and many others. Through his efforts and implementation of various central and state government schemes, he increased the federation’s turnover from Rs 46 crore to Rs 250 crore. Several central and state level awards and also the awards instituted by Indian Oil Corporation have been won by the federation. He took measures to hike the pay of the staff of the federation and kept it on par with the government scales. He also provided various facilities to the employees. The banking business of the federation has increased considerably. All the offices of the federation are computerised with internet connection.
In the coming days, the federation plans to open new branches and expand its banking business, set up self help groups with 25,000 members and grant loans to them at two percent interest. Additionally, there are plans to encourage fish consumption, provide fresh food items made of fish through fish canteens all over the state, set up fish processing and cold storage units, stated a release from the federation.
