Mangaluru: Following the accusation that the fish being sold in Mangaluru were laced with poisonous chemicals, the fisheries department tested fish from various Mangaluru fish markets for traces of poisonous chemicals using the CIFT test kit procured from Kochi on Friday. However, no chemical traces were found on them, informed sources from the department.

On Thursday, the fisheries department procured CIFT test kits from the Central Institute of Fisheries Technology at Kochi in Kerala to check if the fish being sold at fish markets in Mangaluru were laced with poisonous chemicals in response to the accusation that the fish being sold in Mangaluru were laced with poisonous chemicals. The department officials visited Bunder and tested the fish there for chemical traces at the location, on Friday.

Since no chemical traces were found on the fish, the CIFT kits were handed over to the food safety department after the conduction of tests. In the future, the kit will be with the food safety department.
