Malpe: A protest was staged by the fishermen on Tuesday under the aegis of Udupi Zilla Nadadoni Meenagarara Vakkota and Aala Samudra Meenagarara Sangha at Malpe port seeking action against those who are allegedly violating rules and indulged in light fishing.
During the protest, the protesters gheraoed the deputy director of Fisheries Department Parshwantha and assistant director Shivakumar and threated the officers that they (fishermen) would not allow the officers leave the spot until the officers find a solution to the problems of fishermen.
Though Parshwanath requested the protesters to allow them to attend the programme of the Minister of mines, the protesters did not free them and demanded the DC’s visit to the spot. However, police have tightened security at the spot.
Meanwhile, the protesters raised slogans against the district administration.
