Five distinguished individuals to receive “New Year Award-2024” in Manipal

The prestigious “New Year Award-2024” is set to be conferred upon five remarkable individuals from various fields in collaboration with the Academy of General Education, Academy of Higher Education, Manipal Education and Medical Group, Dr. T.M.A. Pai Foundation, and Manipal Media Network Ltd. The awards ceremony is scheduled to take place at KMC Greens, Manipal, on the 19th of January at 5:30 pm.
Here is an introduction to the esteemed awardees:
1. Banker Dr M. Narendra:
– A distinguished figure in the financial sector, Dr. Narendra, born on July 12, 1954, boasts a background in commerce and law.
– His illustrious career includes high-ranking positions such as Chief General Manager in Corporation Bank and Chairman and Managing Director of Indian Overseas Bank.
– Renowned as a Corporate Governance Consultant and Human Resource Development Initiator, Dr. Narendra is based in Mumbai.
2. Dr H. Manjunath Hande:
– Dr. H. Manjunath Hande, born on January 1, 1959, is a respected Professor and Head of the Department of General Medicine at Kasturba Medical College, Manipal.
– His medical journey commenced at Nimhans, and he later joined Manipal Kasturba Medical College in 1988, contributing significantly to healthcare and academia.
– Dr. Hande has held positions as Professor, Principal of Maleka-Manipal Medical College in Malaysia.
3. Actress, Producer Dr Jayamala:
– Dr. Jayamala, born on February 28, 1959, in Panambur, has made significant contributions as an actress and producer in Tulu, Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, and Malayalam films.
– Noteworthy productions include the film ‘Tayi Saheba,’ which received 24 national and state awards.
– Dr. Jayamala, who holds a Ph.D., has also served in various capacities, including Chairperson and Member of Selection Committees including the Karnataka Film Chamber Of Commerce.
-Dr. Jayamala’s husband is Ramachandra H.M., a renowned cinematographer.
4. Agricultural expert B.K. Devarao:
– B.K. Devarao, born on May 31, 1945, is a revered agricultural expert hailing from Mittabagilu village of Belthangady.
– Known for cultivating and preserving various paddy varieties, Devarao actively promotes agricultural practices and has received the National Award for Conservation of Plant Breeds in 2020-21.
– His commitment extends to the cultivation of medicinal plants and the establishment of the ‘Namana Beeja Bank.’
5. Plastic Surgeon Dr Y.S. Rai:
– Dr. Yedkathodi Sanjiva Rai, also known as Y.S. Rai, is an internationally acclaimed plastic surgeon. He is inspired by the visionary Dr. T.M.A. Pai in Manipal.
– A graduate of Manipal KMC, Dr. Rai gained recognition for his expertise in various surgical treatments and served as the Dean of KMC.
– His contributions extend to expanding Manipal’s educational and medical institutions in Pokhara, Nepal, and he has held key positions in medical institutions in Mangalore.
-Dr. Rai’s wife is Kumuda Rai. Their son is an IT engineer in London, and their daughter is a medical specialist. She serves as an associate professor at KMC, Mangalore.
