Katapadi: A serial accident involving three cars resulted in injuries to five people, including an on-duty policeman, at Katapadi Junction on National Highway 66 on Tuesday evening.

Vehicles travelling from Udupi had stopped at the Katapadi Junction due to traffic. A Swift car, losing control, rear-ended a Nissan and an EcoSport that were stationary ahead. The impact pushed the two cars forward, hitting the police personnel managing the traffic.

Ram Nayak, a cop deployed at the Katapadi Outpost, was injured in the collision and was taken to the hospital by locals. Four passengers in the cars—Sushanth, Vishnu, Ashika, and Harshi—suffered minor injuries and escaped serious harm. All injured were transported to Udupi Hospital for treatment.

The accident disrupted highway traffic for a while. The Katapadi Outpost, Kaup Police Station, and highway patrol teams later managed to restore order. Kaup Police Station has registered a case.
