Five Karna firemen conferred Gallantry Medal

Bengaluru: Five personnel from Karnataka’s Fire Service have been decorated with the President’s Fire Service Gallantry Medal on the occasion of the Republic Day felicitations. The five had carried out rescue operations during the building collapse at Dharwad in March 2019.
The medal recipients are RH Javagal, Deputy Director, Karnataka State Fire & Emergency Services, Firemen N M Pavadi, A K Vader, D G Honehalli and Fireman Driver SR Uppaar.
The five were part of the National Disaster Relief Force and State Disaster Relief Force teams which rescued more than 50 survivors, some of whom were trapped for more than two days, from the debris of a collapsed under-construction building in a suburb of Dharwad.
Additionally, 19 police officers from the state were decorated with the President’s Police Medal for their meritorious service.
