Mumbai: Five persons were killed when a speeding car rammed into a roadside tree in the neighbouring Palghar district in the wee hours today, police said. The car was heading towards Palghar city from Vadrai village when its driver lost control over the wheels near the Patilwadi turn around 3 am, a police official said. As a result, the vehicle rammed into the tree on the roadside, he said.

The victims, all locals aged between 25 and 30, could not get any help as the vehicular movement on the road is thin during the early hours, the official said. The driver of another car, which crossed the accident spot after sometime, alerted the police, he said.

The five bodies were sent to a government hospital in Palghar for postmortem, he said. A case was registered at the Satpati police station, he added.
