Jaipur:  A ghastly murder scene unfolded in the city of Alwar where four minor children and an adult were butchered in their sleep by unknown assailants, the police said today.

Banwarli Lal (45), his sons, Ajju and Happy, and nephews, Aman and Nikki, (aged between 4 and 17 years) were murdered with sharp-edged weapons yesterday night when they were fast asleep, officials said.

According to the police, all five victims were sleeping in one room of their rented house while Banwari’s wife and his sister-in-law were in another. The women came to know about the incident in the morning when they discovered the bodies lying in a pool of blood, Shivaji Park police station SHO Vinod Sanwaria said.

“Banwari Lal’s brother is out of the city for some work,” the officer said. The bodies were taken to a nearby hospital for postmortem, he added. “Efforts are being made to identify and arrest the assailants,” Circle Officer (City North) Jai Singh said.
