Flash Flood alert: Minister Laxmi Hebbalkar warns public to be cautious

Bengaluru/Udupi: Udupi district administration has been instructed to be on alert as the Indian Meteorological Department has predicted possibility of flash floods in many districts including Udupi.
Women and Child Welfare Department Minister Laxmi Hebbalkar, who is also the Udupi district in-charge minister, sent a communique to Udupi District Deputy Commissioner and other senior officials in this regard.
IMD has forecast the possibility of flash flood in Udupi, Uttara Kannada, Maharashtra’s Sindhudurga, Ratnagiri, North and South Goa districts in the next 24 hours.
In view of this, the district administration should take as much precaution as possible. Public should also be warned not to go to dangerous areas. The Minister instructed that all measures should be taken to create awareness among the public.
Tourists and villagers living in hilly area are requested to prioritise their safety and take necessary precautions, as there is increased risk of landslides during flash floods. Do not visit waterfalls or go on trekking, she added.
Hebbalkar said that the district administration to be ready for responding to emergencies that may arise.
