Hosapete: The flood situation in the historic city of Hampi continues to worsen as the heavy rains lashed the district on Friday.
The historic sites near the Tungabhadra rivers have been waterlogged.
Entry to the bathing ghats, and riverbanks has been prohibited. In several places, barricades have been erected.
The excess water from the Tungabhadra reservoir is being let off, raising the water levels in the river downstream.
Kodandarama Temple, Purandara Dasa Mantapa, Chakratirtha area, and other sites built during the time of the Vijayanagara empire are flooded.
In case more water is let off from the reservoir, Janata plots next to the Virupaksha Temple may be flooded. The district administration has readied itself to evacuate the residents, in such a case.
