Flowing rain water woman drowns in Kasaragod

Kasaragod: The heavy rains that poured down on Kasaragod district has caused widespread damage, loss and also claimed the life of a woman. The woman drowned after she was subdued by the current of the flowing rainwater. An uprooted tree inflicted injury on two people.

The deceased who is a day wage worker has been identified as Bailu(73), wife of Pakkira, a resident of Nakuru in Nettanige. On the evening of May 30th, the victim was on her way back home after work and as she was attempting to cross a drain she was pulled and carried away by the flowing rain water in the drain. Hearing her screams the localities rushed to search and rescue her and finally located her 150 meters from the incident spot. She was immediately lifted out and shifted to Kasaragod hospital but in vain. Aduru police have registered a case in this regard.

A branch of a tree fell on the quarters of Water Authority at Vidyanagara. An uprooted tree fell on to the Kelugudde road and caused traffic jam, but it was soon relieved after the fire services cleared the debris of the road.

A jackfruit tree fell on the tiled roof house of Krishnan at Mavungal in Panatturu. His sons Shrijit (25) and Jeshnu sustained injuries. 22 electric poles have broken at various locations including Naikayam, Padimurudu, Verumakalam, Kallaru, Chendalam and other places. In Pudanga, the electric pole carrying high tension wires has broken.
