Food Safety Index report: Karnataka retains ninth spot

Bengaluru: Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya on the occasion of World Food Safety Day on June 7, released the 4th State Food Safety Index.
As per the Safety Index report, Karnataka retained the ninth spot in 2021-22, while Tamil Nadu topped the list among larger states.
Karnataka has been slotted in ninth place for the second consecutive year in the index. Prior to this, in the 2019-20 report, the state had occupied the sixth spot.
The report has been prepared by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) to measure the performance of States across five parameters of food safety.
The 4th State Food Safety Index (SFSI) will help in providing safe and nutritious food to the citizens and indicates the efforts of States and the Union Territories in ensuring it.
Started in 2018-19, the SFSI aims of creating a competitive and positive change in the food safety ecosystem in the country.
