Seema Kumari, a girl from Jharkhand has got a full scholarship from the Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts. She has also been accepted in Ashoka University, Middlebury College, and Trinity College-Hartford.
Harvard University this year has an extremely low acceptance rate but Seema managed to get admission to the university.
Seema is the daughter of a farmer and her parents are underprivileged, who rely on subsistence farming.
Being the daughter of illiterate parents in a village in Ormanjhi, Seema has avoided child marriage, defended her right to education and played football for years. Seema will be the first woman in her family to attend a university.

However Seema does not know what she will major in at Harvard University, but she does have a clear vision for her future.
She asserted that gender equality is a development that she wants to see in her village and the whole world. Bringing gender equality to my community is essential to reduce injustices against women like gender discrimination, domestic violence, child marriage, etc. It would not only show economic growth but also social, where women take part in decision making at each house.
Many celebrities including Priyanka Chopra took to Twitter to show support.
Priyanka Chopra wrote, “Educate a girl and she can change the world…such an inspiring achievement. Bravo Seema. I can’t wait to see what you do next.”
