Bengaluru: Former Kadur MLA Y.C. Vishwanath died after a brief illness on Sunday at a private hospital in Bengaluru. He was 68 years old and is survived by two sons and a daughter.

Vishwanath was a government doctor who quit his profession to contest for the Assembly elections with a BJP ticket. He contested twice and lost. He won in the by-election conducted after the death of Congress MLA K.M. Krishnamurthy in 2010. He supported BJP candidate Belli Prakash in the recent polls and had also participated in the victory celebrations of the candidate on May 15.

Vishwanath was taken to a private hospital in Bengaluru after he developed health complications following the victory celebrations. He later passed away on Sunday. The last rites will be carried out at his native Yellambalase in Kadur taluk on Monday.
