Mangaluru: Four persons have been arrested by the police special crime vigilance squad of city north sub-division and economic and narcotic crime for duping banks by creating fake vehicle documents.

The arrested are identified as Govardhan (34), a resident of Mangaladevi, Mohammed Anwar alias Bhasma Anwar (44), a resident of Bajpe, Naushad alias Naushad Hussain (36), a resident of Thumbay and Ummer Farookh alias RTO Ummer (51), a resident of Kadri Shivabagh.

ACP of north sub-division, Srinivas R Gowda who led the special crime vigilance squad, got reliable information in this regard on August 21.

Modus operandi

The accused used to create fake documents without the knowledge of the vehicle owners and then procured loans on the same vehicle from different banks by providing the fake documents in the name of the actual vehicle owners. When the loan was sanctioned, they transferred the amount to their bank accounts. Thus the accused had successfully cheated vehicle owners and banks to the tune of Rs 45 lakh.

Police is carrying out further investigation in connection to the case.
