Four from Bantwal killed after car falls into 60-ft-deep gorge

Mudigere: In a tragic mishap, four people from Bantwal died after their car fell into a 60-feet deep gorge near Malleshana Gudde estate, some 35 kilometres away from Kalasa town on Monday, February 18 afternoon.
Vishwanath Rai (65) his wife Pushpa (60), Vishwanath’s brother Raghava Rai (62) and his wife Mamatha (53) are the deceased persons. Another occupant of the car identified as Sanjiv Rai (71) miraculously escaped with injuries and is undergoing treatment at a Mangaluru hospital.
It is gathered that the family was on their way to Chikkamagaluru to attend a Yakshagana programme, when Vishwanatha Rai who was at the wheel is said to have lost control over the vehicle while passing through Malleshana Gudde estate circle and fell into the gorge, resulting in the death of four persons.
Kalasa police have registered the case.
