Mangaluru: A group of students from Ujire have achieved a rare fete by designing a four wheeler bike entirely from scrap items.
The commendable achievement of designing a four-wheeler bike out of scrap items goes to Hafeez, Ifaaz, Marva, Zameer and Harsha pursuing science at SDM PU College at Ujire. The students exhibited their project at Sahyadri Science Talent Hunt held at Sahyadri campus in Adyar on November 10 and garnered much appreciation from the dignitaries who were part in the event.
The creation
Creating a -wheeler bike out of scrap items was a very challenging task for the students. However, under the guidance of college lecturers Rajesh and Gurudeep, the five students were able to build the quad bike. They started the project in the month of august and completed in within three months. The materials required building the bike including the silencer, tyres, disc, gear box, tempered rod, lamp, engine, chain, disc plate, calliper and bearing were procured from scrap shops at Ujire, Somanthadka and Bunder.
The bike which was projected in the talent hunt event consists of 100 cc engine of Bajaj CT 100, auto rickshaw tyres, 4 litre petrol tank, 12 watt battery and gives mileage up to 40 kilometres. The four- wheeler bike will be useful for the disabled and is also useful for the farmers in many ways.
Bike to be upgraded
The team is planning to upgrade the bike in the coming days by adding a reverse gear, butterfly steering and making it possible to use it for an adventure ride.
“When we took the scrap materials from the scrap shop somewhere not functioning, so we had to depend on YouTube to take up repair works and make it functional,” said Hafeez, a team member.
