Udupi: Dr. T.M.A. Pai Hospital, Udupi is organising a free Bone Mineral Density Camp at the Department Of Orthopaedics of the hospital on August 29.

Osteoporosis is a silent condition where the bone becomes thin and fragile leading to fractures. The disease occurs when either the body fails to form new bones or there is increased destruction of the old bones. This disease is most common in postmenopausal women, but it remains largely undiagnosed due to a lack of information about the condition said Dr. Rajaram Pai, Head, Department of Orthopedics, Dr. T.M.A. Pai Hospital, Udupi.

It can be diagnosed by a non-invasive technique called Bone Mineral Density and subsequently, advice regarding management for the same is given. Ladies, especially those above the age of 50 are required to undergo the BMD Test to evaluate the density of their bones.

Dr. Shashikiran Umakanth, Medical Superintendent, Dr. T.M.A. Pai Hospital, Udupi said that in this regard there will be a FREE Bone Mineral Density Camp at the Department Of Orthopaedics, Dr. T.M.A. Pai Hospital, Udupi on Tuesday, August 29 from 9 am to 3 pm.
