Free open gym in Kadri Park!

Mangaluru: There is no need to spend thousands of rupees to go to a gym to get an attractive body. Henceforth, the mind and the body will get exercise in an environment filled with greenery. This is so because soon, free gym facility will be available in Kadri Park.

By the end of this month, free gym facility will be available in the park. The aim of the gym is to provide exercise facility to those who arrive at the park for walking. Kadri park is Mangaluru’s largest and most popular park which is also visited by hundreds of people, daily in the morning and evening for walking.

With the aim to provide gym facility to the public visiting the park, the corporation had drawn an action plan and accordingly, the gym construction work has only just begun. The work on installing a roof and cementing has already been completed.

The users of the gym will not be charged any fees. Besides, there also will not be any trainer. Any person visiting the park can make use this facility. This gym is devoid of any walls and functions as an open gym. This gym will have almost 15 different equipments which also has other facilities including cycling, walking, driving, tumbling and several other types of facilities. All these equipments will be installed in an area with a length of 85 meters. There will be no building facility for the gym. A roof facility made of sheets will be installed to provide protection from rain and sun, informed Assistant Executive Engineer Ravi Shankar.

Grants from MCC, State and Centre

The gym facility in the park will be provided by using the Rs 116 lakh grant released under the Amrut Scheme. This grant is made up of 50% subsidy from the Central Government, 20% subsidy from the State Government and 30% subsidy from the Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC). For now, the approximate cost for the construction of the gym in the park is estimated to be Rs 25 lakh, informed the concerned officials. It has been aimed to do the various works in the park using the grant under this plan and already the walking track has been completed. A play area for the differently abled children is under construction and the equipment remains to be brought.

To be handed over to the horticulture department

The gym at the park is being constructed under the Amrut plan. After completion of the construction work, the responsibility of maintaining the gym will be handed over to the Horticulture Department from the MCC. The work is expected to be completed by December end. All the process will be completed by Jan 10th,” said Mohammed Nazeer, MCC commissioner

Completion by Dec end

“The gym being created at Kadri Park will be an open gym and can be used by the public. The construction work will be completed by December,” said Ravi Shankar, Assistant Executive Engineer
