Frequent accidents near Eshwar Nagar: Public demand immediate action

Manipal: The stretch near the pump house between Manipal and Parkala on NH-169A, has become a hotspot for accidents, prompting public demands for immediate safety measures.
The highway expansion project from Eshwar Nagar to Parkala is stalled due to land acquisition issues. Currently, a straight four-lane road ends abruptly at Eshwar Nagar, diverting traffic into a narrow descent and sharp turn, leading to confusion and frequent accidents.
Vehicles often miss the diversion and crash into the pump house, with 9 such incidents reported this year, injuring several people. All vehicles involved in accidents so far have been from outside the district.
Local resident H.A.K. Pai suggests installing proper diversion boards and speed breakers to prevent further mishaps.
Suggested Measures:
1. Place warning signs ahead of the diversion.
2. Install larger, more visible boards.
3. Add speed breakers before the road narrows.
Immediate action by the highway department is essential to avoid further casualties.
