Chennai: ‘Unanswered prayers’ reportedly led a ‘devotee’ to hurl a petrol bomb at a temple in Chennai. The incident unfolded on Friday, and fortunately, there were no injuries reported, with the temple structure remaining undamaged, police said.

The accused, a 39-year-old individual identified as J Murali Krishnan, has been arrested, police added.

Krishnan, a resident under Kothawal Chavadi police station limits, apparently was dissatisfied with the temple deity, claiming he felt ‘frustrated’ because his prayers went unanswered. In a drunken state, he took matters into his own hands, hurling a petrol bomb at the sacred space, according to police.

The man was ‘heavily drunk’ when he hurled the petrol bomb. He was immediately overpowered and taken into custody, police said.

Police meanwhile have booked a case under the Explosive Substances Act and further investigation is on.
