New Delhi: A fugitive US citizen, arrested in Bengaluru following a Red Corner Notice for allegedly causing death of a person in Indonesia due to medical negligence last year, has been denied bail by a Delhi court.

Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Gurmohina Kaur, who presides over the Special Extradition Court of India, dismissed the bail application of 57-year-old Randall John Cafferty, arrested from Bengaluru airport on September 29 following the notice.

The court noted the submissions made by advocate N K Matta, appearing for the Ministry of External Affairs, that a formal extradition request from Indonesia against Cafferty, currently in judicial custody, has been received by the central government.

Cafferty was held on a request of Indonesia for his provisional arrest as he was wanted there to face trial. He is accused of committing various offences in Indonesia, including practising as a health worker without having an appropriate licence and causing medical negligence which resulted in the death of the patient. Indian and Indonesia have an extradition treaty in place since 2011.
