G Parameshwar says he will not allow Karnataka to go ‘Udta Punjab’ way

Bengaluru: Home Minister G. Parameshwara on Tuesday said some pharma organizations in and around Devanahalli were producing tablets bound with narcotics and exporting them to different nations. 

Reacting to an inquiry in the Legislative Council on the expanding drug hazard in the State and “inaction” by the government to check it, the Home Minister stated, “It has gone to our notice that a few organizations are doing this on a small scale starting at now. We have taken genuine note of this and have started measures to check this.” 

He said such tablets worth over ₹5 crore were been as of late seized by the Customs authorities at the Kempegowda International Airport. Affirming that his governemnt had found a way to check narcotics threat, he stated, “We won’t allow Karnataka to go the ‘Udta Punjab’ way.” 

The Minister said the government had considered the issue important and guided the police to make stringent move against drug peddlers. 

“It has gone to the notice of the police that petty shops near colleges sell these drugs. We have posted police in mufti near schools and colleges. After the new government came to power, 56 cases were filed. Of these, 11 were in Mangaluru,” he included.
