Gadkari directs officials to make Shiradi Ghat operational in week’s time

Mangaluru: Raod connectivity and pending flyover projects seemed to dominate the meeting, convened by Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari, on Monday, August 27 to discuss the infrastructure issues of Dakshina Kannada region.

Senior officials of National Highways Authority of India, Dakshina Kannada MP Nalin Kumar Kateel and four other MLAs – Sullia MLA Angara, Beltangady MLA Harish Punja, Puttur MLA Sanjeev Matandoor, and Mangaluru (north) MLA Bharat Shetty attended the meeting held at Gadkari’s office in New Delhi.

The legislators apprised the minister of the present situation, wherein road, rail connectivity to Mangaluru has been snapped owing to landslides at Shiradi and Sampaje Ghats.

The minister has, seemingly, instructed the officials to address the people’s problems and make Shiradi Ghat functional within a weeks time.

Pumpwell, Thokkottu flyovers to be completed in 4 mths:

The pending flyover projects at Pumpwell and Thokkottu , which have been a cause of concern for motorists is likely to be completed within four months time after the rains subside. Reportedly, officials of the M/s Navayuga Udupi Tollway Pvt., Ltd. have assured Gadkari that they would speedily execute the work once the rains subside in the region. Service roads too will be created within this time span, they said.

Tenders to be called for proposed NH projects in DK:

Gadkari also directed the National Highways Authority of India to call tenders for execution of the three proposed projects in the district, which includes four-laning of National Highway 169 between Mangaluru and Karkala; four-laning Mangaluru bypass road from Mulki to B.C. Road via Kateel and six-laning of B.C. Road-Surathkal stretch of NH 75 and 66 that was four-laned under Port Connectivity project.
