Mangaluru: Dakshina Kannada DC KV Rajendra urged the leaders of district Ganeshotsava committees to strictly follow guidelines issued by the state government.

Speaking at a meeting held at the District Collector’s office, Rajendra said, ” The city corporations, as well as urban local bodies, have been asked to set up a single-window system for people to obtain permission to set up pandals and install Ganesh idols in public places. It will comprise officials from the revenue, police, energy, fire and PWD departments. The organizers need to seek permission from all the departments three days prior to establishing their pandals.”

He further said,” In order to ensure communal peace and harmony during the celebrations, the committees must obtain permission from the police before putting up banners in public places. The organizations and groups setting up pandals for Ganesh Puja must install CCTV cameras. The CCTV cameras at the puja pandals have been made mandatory in a bid to avoid theft or any other suspicious activity.”

“Also, the pandals must not be set up near high-tension electric poles. The committees must contain prior permission from the concerned officials before using loudspeakers. As per court orders, there is a ban on the use of loudspeakers between 10pm and 6am.  The committees must avoid idols made up of plastic or plaster of Paris and use clay idols. Lastly, Covid-19 guidelines must be strictly followed,” he added.
