Gang waylaid truck, robs driver

Puttur: In a late-night incident, miscreants waylaid a truck, laden with different products of Hindustan Lever Ltd and robbed its driver after gagging him and made away with some items from the truck at Shirdigudde in Golithottu village on national highway 75 near Uppinangady.
Reportedly the victim, Ambareesh of Mandya district was driving the goods-laden truck towards Mangaluru from Chikkaballapur when a gang of three persons arrived in a white colour Indica car without number plate and intercepted the truck. Later they assaulted Ambareesh, tied him and took away his mobile phone and Rs 5,200 cash. The gang even broke open the boxes in the truck but found that it contained items like soap, washing powder etc.
The incident came to light on Monday, March 2 early morning when a truck passing by the area spotted the truck driver, identified as Ambareesh of Mandya district in an unconscious state. He was taken to a nearby hospital where he is said to be recovering. Uppinangady police filed a case in this regards.
Notably, a similar incident had taken place at Panjala in Uppinangady during the previous Lok Sabha election. The accused in that case are still at large
